Meet the artist: David Smith “Born in 1949 in Glasgow, Scotland, after working at a number of different jobs, I went to Duncan of Jordanstone College of art in Dundee from 1973 - 1977, Obtaining a D.A., then took a Dip.Ed. Course, also in Dundee, going on to teach art for many years. During these years, I kept up my own painting skills, taking part in many exhibitions, and have many paintings in private collections throughout Britain and also in Germany and South Africa. I now paint full time, my works primarily going for print publication in the U.S.A. and also for fine art greetings cards.
Throughout the last thirty years, although I have painted still life and figure, landscape has been my passion, my influences being the French Impressionists, particularly Monet and Sisley, and the Scottish Colourists, particularly Peploe, all of which have contributed to a rich painterly quality and a feeling for light in my work.
